What Is In Petroleum Jelly Anyway? And Why Should I Care?

Petroleum Jelly( petroleum) is a derivative of oil refining, originally found coating the bottom of oil rigs in the mid 1800, it’s a by product of the oil industry and an unsustainable resource. (its used on car parts, shipping parts, etc. )

Though generally regarded as safe, the components that are removed from the oil during the refining process of petroleum jelly are carcinogenic in some cases. “Vaseline supposedly has all of these [components] removed,” (well known physician)Dr. Dattner says. “But there are probably plenty of petroleum jelly imitators, and one doesn’t always know the extent that they’re removed.”

Also noted, since petroleum jelly can be found in “different grades of purity,” you don’t always know how non-toxic your petroleum jelly-based beauty products really are.
, Why is it used in all products on the market?– it is an inexpensive way for a formulator to offer the appearance and immediate fell  of hydrated skin- its like putting a piece of plastic over your skin, it prevents evaporation. AND it is CHEAP for the manufacturer to use as a filler, petroleum jelly costs 1 cent per gallon drum.  You skin will always be consistently dry and your will consistently be putting on lotion ,as the petroleum jelly in your product just sits on top of your skin as a barrier and will never allow any ingredient that may be good in your product to penetrate your skin and solve the issue.

If you look at the ingredients in personal care products  on the market, turn your attention to  the 4 or 5th ingredient from the top, it  will be some sort of petroleum jelly or mineral oil.

Avoid products or medicinal lotions with petroleum Jelly, you are wasting your money and not allowing your skin to breath or solve the issue you many have.
